THE WHAT? Fans have taken to social media to voice their upset over the discontinuation of Bayer’s Bain de Soleil Orange Gelée sunscreen, with the US$10 product now selling on resale sites such as eBay for US$200 and more, according to the NY Post. 

THE DETAILS Production of the 94-year-old sunscreen was halted in December 2019, with consumers stating concern such as, “I’ve used it all my life. Until last year, I thought it would be there for me forever.” And “It [feels] like the beach — the texture, the color, the smell. You just don’t get that anywhere else.”

THE WHY? According to a statement by Bayer, the company ‘discontinued the production and sale of Bain de Soleil products due to limited consumer interest.”

However, consumers are now questioning that, given the growing market for expensive resale, why a new company has not bought out the brand.
